About Us
At People Like Us Safaris we run exceptional accommodated overland and day tours through Southern Africa. We are based in Cape Town, South Africa. Our adventures are for small groups of up to 8 people, which allow us to provide the kind of personal attention we would like to give our guests.
We have always loved travelling our beautiful and diverse subcontinent; spending time with its natural and indigenous inhabitants and feeling the freedom and sense of belonging in it’s wide open spaces. We have dedicated People Like Us Safaris to sharing our astounding natural heritage with travellers from around the world.
Who We Are?
Jamie Keenan
Hi my name is Jamie; I grew up in and around Cape Town. Ever since I can first remember I have been going to the wild places of Southern Africa on family holidays, I guess it was this exposure to wildlife that fuelled my interest and passion for it.
After school I studied Nature Conservation culminating in a year living and researching in the Kruger National Park, something that had always been a dream of mine. I then travelled Europe and North Africa for a year and on my return joined Shamwari Private Game Reserve as a field guide for three years where I furthered my studies. Next I lead tours for other companies through Southern Africa where I got most of my on-the-ground overlanding experience. I am interested in every aspect of our natural world but have a special affinity for Southern Africa as it is where I’ve grown up, I take pride in sharing our beautiful land and its unique inhabitants with people from other places. What I love about travelling in Southern Africa is that it is always different, in most cases unpredictable and never boring. There is always something new to discover.
Where do we stay?
Our adventures are primarily accommodated in clean and comfortable B&B’s and local guest houses situated in prime locations giving us easy access to the sites we aim to visit.
How do we travel?
Our tours are run in comfortable air-conditioned shuttles with our luggage and equipment kept in tow, in a trailer. Our tours run all year, however we do focus on the specialities of the seasons i.e. whales in winter and wild flowers in spring, and visit the different areas of Southern Africa at the “best” times of year.
What do we eat?
When on tour we combine a blend of local catering and eating out, so that you can sample what the region has to offer. We love food, so you can look forward to traditional South African braais, lots of fresh salads, perfectly cooked steak and lots of local fruits and vegetables. Got special dietary requirements? Let us know and we’ll make sure you are catered for.
