Itinerary
Day 1
Maun
Arrive in Maun at around lunch time where you will be picked up from the airport.
Go to the lodge to check in, drop of luggage and freshen up. We will then head back to town to do a shop for everything that we need for the next two nights in the Delta.
There is an option to do a low altitude flight over the Delta (own expense) today or on the last day. This evening we will eat at the lodge on the banks of Thamalakane River. Over dinner and drinks we will discuss our plan for the next few days. We sleep in en suite chalets. (L)
Day 2
Kwai Conservation Area
This morning we are up early and while you enjoy breakfast everything you need for the next week will be packed into our 4×4 trailer. And we’ll be ready to go!
The drive into the Kwai area is a bit of a long one and we should arrive at our camp in time for a late lunch. After settling into our camp and perhaps a bit of a siesta we will head out on a game drive which will take us to our sun downer stop before returning to camp foe dinner. (BLD)
Days 3, 4, 5 & 6
Kwai Conservation Area
The next four days and nights will be spent around this densely populated wildlife area in search of the most, special, rare and exciting encounters, animals and birds that we can find. The area is famed as one of, if not the best wildlife viewing area surrounding the Okavango Delta which certainly makes it one of the best in Africa!
During our time here we will do a combination of morning, afternoon and night drives as well as there will be the options to take a boat or mokoro (dugout canoe) cruise through the clear, winding waterways of the Okavango Delta.
We will have a vehicle which can go nearly anywhere surrounds and absolutely no time constraints. We can do lunch out in the bush, on the grassy banks of a river or in the company of which ever animals you wish to spend time with. We will focus on birds, animals, tacks and signs as well as the history and ecology of the area. The photographic opportunities here are amazing and unlike some other reserves, it is quite normal here to have a pride of lions or solitary leopard all ourselves.
In the evenings we enjoy the feeling of having the whole of Africa to ourselves and sleep in a lager of 3m x 3m canvas tents around the fire.
The areas around the Okavango Delta are fast becoming one of the last places where it’s possible to do real wild camping – no fences, no infrastructure and relatively few other people – here we are in the wild animals’ territory and it’s like going back in time! Each evening we will have a big fire which we will cook over and sit around, the night sky is not polluted by the light of cities and the stars are unbelievable – see the Cape Magellanic Clouds (2 of only 3 other galaxies that can be seen from earth with the naked eye, as well as the moons of Jupiter, it has 16 and we will be able to see four of them). Hear elephants feeding in the distance, lions roaring, hyenas calling, owls hooting and hippos grunting. The list goes on – this truly is wild, untamed Africa at its best! (BLD x4)
Day 7
Maun
After an optional early morning game drive and a leisurely breakfast we pack up and depart. We can game drive for the rest of the morning before heading back to Maun to arrive for a late lunch. The afternoon is free to relax around the pool, go into town for shopping, or take a delta flight before dinner at a local restaurant. (BL)
Day 8
Tour Ends
Have a relaxed morning, breakfast at the lodge and pack up all you kit before being transferred to the airport to catch your flights home. (B)
